Goldington Academy
Bedford
Case Study
Goldington Academy, based in Bedford, is a middle school for children aged 9 to 13 years old. With almost 700 pupils on role, the running of the IT systems has to be seamless.
The man who’s responsible for making this happen is Network Manager Ed Friday and he has chosen to work with ICTn for over a decade, including enlisting their support for a recent server upgrade.
Ed had chosen ICTn as his IT supplier when he worked at his previous school. There, we installed and set up the school’s servers and installed the physical and wireless networks. Before working with ICTn he had experienced problems with IT companies who over promised then under delivered.
If the IT network is down, it has a massive impact on pupils at Goldington. It’s not just IT lessons that are disrupted – all lessons are affected. It’s not like in a business where you can reschedule a meeting for another day if technology fails – in a school, a lesson can’t be repeated.
ICTn set up the server and the engineers sorted it all out in the evening so there was no downtime for the school. When Ed came in the next morning, it was all up and running. the wifi speeds have improved and the coverage and signal is stronger. Physically the new access point also looks neater.
Goldington have found that where schools are concerned, the team at ICTn just get it.
IT companies who don’t specialise in schools don’t know just how critical it is that everything is working 100% of the time but ICTn certainly does. ICTn recommend products that they know will work for us. The products have always been excellent and there’s never been an issue.
“When ICTn upgraded our system, there could have been so many issues – but there were none at all! it was smoother than we ever envisaged.”
